Lou-vain in francese –,è un’isola urbana adest di Bruxelles,nel piatto e verde pae-saggio del Brabante Fiammingo,delquale ducato un tempo era capitale edora capoluogo,prossima ad altre realtàcomunali quali Kessel-Lo,Winksele,Wijgmaal ed Heverlee.L’incontro delleesistenti centralità storiche della re-gione,del polo universitario (una dellepiù antiche università di Europa) e di at-tività industriali,nel corso del tempo,hainnescato in questa regione belga unadinamica spontanea,strutturando unospazio policentrico ancorato a questimicrocosmi urbani,connesso con la regione di Bruxelles e gli altri centri dalsistema di strade,ferrovie e autostrade.Vaste aree agricole,nonché di verde bo-schivo nell’area circoscritta fra questipoli,preservano la discontinuità tra glispazi urbanizzati e favoriscono la con-densazione intorno ai nodi di questo ar-cipelago urbano.La proposta progettuale dello studio diarchitettura BOB361 per un’area resi-denziale suburbana in Kessel-Lo,a sud-est di Leuven,consente di approfondirela conoscenza di tale contesto e megliocogliere l’importanza del ruolo dell’ar-chitettura nell’ambito della riqualifica-zione del territorio e dello sviluppo dinuove strategie di ridefinizione urbana.L’attenzione dei tre giovani architetti – Ivo Vanhamme,Goedele Desmet e Jean-Michel Culas – per il tema dell’a-bitazione nella sua accezione sociale,affrontato fin dal 1991,anno di fonda-zione del gruppo BOB361,è costante etrova in questo progetto per 17 alloggiuna delle sue varianti più significative.L’intervento progettuale ha la capacità di parlare della realtà umana del territo-rio,provando come l’architettura possaessere modalità materiale,abile e razio-nale,di risoluzione dei problemi egarantendo un tessuto urbano vivibile,dalla densità “ottimale”,in sintonia conle necessità ed i desideri di chi lo abita.Il progetto di BOB361,la cui realizza-zione si è conclusa nel 2005,è conse-guente ad un primo premio ottenutonel 2000 al concorso per la riqualifica-zione della zona,contraddistinta inmodo peculiare dall’eterogeneità deitipi edilizi come di frequente si riscon-tra nella città europea contemporanea.È tuttavia la presenza di un’ampia areaverde circostante il sito del progetto adessere stata scelta come chiave per garantire l’identificabilità di tale spaziourbano,fungendo da tessuto connettivoe guidando,attraverso il progetto delverde che circonda le residenze,il pro-cesso di riqualificazione.L’intervento si struttura,infatti,con at-tenta omogeneità urbanistica e morfo-logica in una sequenza di blocchi edili-zi che,pur nella voluta compattezza,sono distinti da privati giardini,per consentire agli abitanti la ricercata qua-lità del vivere.Tre tipologie residenzialisono concatenate in una sequenza rit-mica con la cadenza di AAB-AAC,dove il modello più frequentementeripetuto,denominato “tipo A”,corri-sponde alle proposte abitative piùrichieste;la metrica dei volumi,nellaformulata ripetibilità delle sue variazio-ni possibili,riordina il fronte stradale diHeidebergstraat e funge da filtro,attra-verso gli spazi verdi alternati ad ognicomplesso,al parco retrostante che con-duce ad un’area cimiteriale.I singoli blocchi edilizi,a loro volta,contengono ciascuno tre tipologie diappartamenti di differenti metrature,rispondendo alle necessità tipologicheespresse dalla comunità locale,in uncorale esercizio di progettazione urbanapartecipata che le comunità municipalidel Belgio stanno sempre più frequen-temente sperimentando
